5D & 7D Sensor size comparison.
Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 2:06PM Here is a good demonstration of the difference in mirror box/sensor sizes between the 5D on the left and 7D on the right. For reference, the camera bodies are similiar proportions and the lens mounting ring is exactly the same size.

The 7D is a good camera, but it's this massive sensor that gives the 5D it's famed shallow depth of field and contributes to it's amazing low light performance (f1.2 lenses help too!).
